Freedom is a word whispered in the plantation fields by day and in the slave cabins at night. Stories of a railroad helping slaves cross to Free states in the North seem too good to be true to young Lida Anderson. But with the help of a slave, Lida risks everything to be free. Leaving behind her family, friends and the only life she knows, she embarks on the dangerous journey out of slavery via the Underground Railroad. Through soulful music and poignant storytelling, A Midnight Cry brings to life for young people a vital part of our nation’s history.
